LIVE FIELD MANUAL

HOW TO USE
VN STAGE

This guide is maintained alongside the module, so it can grow whenever features change.

How to Use StoryscapeTTRPG Scene Director

This guide covers the public, standalone module. No Storyscape Cloud account is required.

Install and Enable

  1. In Foundry VTT, open Add-on Modules and choose Install Module.
  2. Paste the manifest URL shown above and install.
  3. Enable StoryscapeTTRPG Scene Director in your world.
  4. Open Configure Settings → Module Settings to enable only the tools your table needs.

Keyboard Controls

  • K — Show / Hide for All: GM-only broadcast toggle for the VN Stage.
  • L — Show / Hide for Me: changes only your own view.
  • Both shortcuts can be remapped under Configure Controls.

Visual Novel Stage

Use Director to choose a backdrop, load or save stages, manage the cast, link a location Journal, and control cast spacing. The Stage Library supports folders, search, and moving saved stages between folders. Add Actors from the casting drawer, choose standee variations, set moods and effects, and position or reorder characters directly on the Stage. Actor appearance uses feet and inches, with 5′ 0″ as the Stage baseline; this height is also used by the Enlarge and Reduce effects. The full cast automatically scales together to keep the tallest visible Actor on screen while preserving relative heights. Taller standees are automatically placed behind shorter standees, while cast order breaks ties between similarly sized characters. Show for All broadcasts the scene; Show for Me previews it locally.

Dialogue, Journals, Rolls, and Weather

  • Use the speaker and dialogue controls to present VN-style dialogue.
  • Present Journal searches pages and folders, warns about GM-only content, and synchronizes both presenting and closing across the table.
  • Call Roll sends targeted skill, ability, save, or formula prompts with delivery retries. Failed D&D 5e rolls can spend Heroic Inspiration; View Last Roll recalls the latest result group.
  • Weather adds animated atmosphere such as rain, snow, fog, fireflies, leaves, and petals.

Session Tray

The GM Session Tray collects prepared Scenes, Actors, Journals, and checklist tasks. Save, rename, duplicate, load, or delete named prep sets. Its private Journal reader includes a table of contents, remembered reading position, and bracket-key navigation through blockquote script lines.

Turn Tracker

During combat, the cinematic carousel follows Foundry's encounter order. Combatants can roll initiative, GMs can roll all missing initiatives, ordering remains stable while initiative is incomplete, and the active turn is highlighted and timed. Players can end their own turn; GMs can move backward, pause, skip, or advance.

Stage Shop — D&D 5.5e Only

Enable Stage Shop in Module Settings. The GM can turn the current Stage into a shop, stock it from Item compendiums, set prices and quantities, and allow player buying or selling. Purchases update D&D 5.5e inventory and currency automatically.

Stage Awards — D&D 5.5e Only

Enable Stage Awards in Module Settings. The GM can grant XP, currency, and optional compendium Items to staged player characters. Recipients receive the full entered amount, and Foundry posts a receipt plus an on-screen fanfare.

Diagnostics and Troubleshooting

Use Diagnostics to inspect locally stored module events, copy or download a report, and confirm the active Scene, backdrop, cast, weather, and module version. If a feature is missing, first confirm its individual switch is enabled in Module Settings and reload the world after updating the module.
